Beneath the Skin is the second studio album by Icelandic folk-pop band Of Monsters and Men released on 8 June 2015 in Iceland,‪ and a day later in the rest of the world.‪ The album artwork and design has been created by artistic director Leif Podhajsky.

Of Monsters and Men is a five-member, English-language indie folk/indie pop band from Keflavík, Iceland, formed in 2010. The members are lead singer/guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, co-singer-guitarist Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson and bassist Kristján Páll Kristjánsson.

“Organs” is perhaps the most emotionally bare song the band has ever written, a fragile piano ballad with sloping cellos and lines like “I cough up my lungs, ’cause they remind me how it all went wrong/But I leave in my heart, cause I don’t want to stay in the dark.”

“Last time around, [the band members] were really good friends but getting to know each other — now we really know each other very well,” says Þórhallsson. “For us to open up to each other and talk about things that are personal was definitely hard, but I think it also makes us write better lyrics if we’re honest.”
